Lying roughly in the middle of the Aegean Sea, Naxos is the largest of the Cycladic islands and the most fertile. Although famous for its Cycladic civilization, Naxos was also the main island of the Venetian "Duchy of the Archipelago" during
the Middle Ages. It is mountainous and dotted with ancient abandoned marble quarries, alongside two of which huge unfinished ancient giant-sized Kouros
figures still lie. A tour by car to the islands interior will take you to lush green valleys speckled with unspoiled sugercube villages. There you can sample the organic food and wines attributed to the longevity of the Naxians.
